The Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Center holds a six day session for students to seek change within themselves to make a difference in the world. The Life and Legacy Days of Dr. King teaches nonviolence as a form to help develop self-control. When people here the name Dr. King, immediately they think of him as, “He had a dream.”, neglecting the fact that he did more than just that speech. Students will begin to look at and dissect videos and other speeches that he made to see all the different types of elements that he and other civil rights luminaries used to create change during the Civil Rights Movement.
Winter Break (December 27, 2017 – January 1, 2018): Life and Legacy of Dr. King Classes: This six day Dr. King session is for students who desire knowledge of Dr. King. Students read, write and speak about Dr. King and his significance. Nonviolence teaches the development of self-control. It teaches us to learn how to learn.
